Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Beyoncé Giselle Knowles is a genuine pop music phenomenon. As well as being an incredible singer and songwriter, Beyoncé’s talents extend to music production, modeling (unsurprising given her beauty), actress (including a co-starring role in hilarious Austin Powers sequel Austin Powers in Goldmember), video direction and…well the list goes on! Having sold 75 million records including as part of Destiny’s Child and her blockbuster solo career, Beyoncé can be sure of her global popularity. After pop trio Destiny’s Child went on hiatus in 2003, Beyoncé wasted no time in releasing Dangerously in Love, her much loved debut solo album. A critical and commercial smash hit which included hit singles Crazy in Love with rap megastar and husband Jay-Z, the album deservedly earned Beyoncé five Grammy Awards. Beyoncé followed up with B’Day in 2006 and I Am… Sasha Fierce in 2008. Sasha Fierce is an alter ego established by Beyoncé to communicate her more confident and sexually provocative side, an alter ego that she is quick to reveal is only unveiled on stage. Beyoncé is an extremely positive female role model with a highly successful career extending to philanthropy. This work has included the creation of the Survivor Foundation with fellow Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, a charity established to provide temportary housing for those effected by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Since 2006, Beyoncé has had all-female touring band called Suga Mama who provide the propulsive backing to her amazing songs. Beyoncé has been in a relationship with rap megastar Jay-Z since 2002, although both parties have remained secretive about the union even after the pair married in April 2008 at a ceremony in New York. Beyoncé has stated that the proudest moment of her distinguished career as being singing for Barack and Michelle Obama’s first dance at the inauguration of the President.
